UV ozone air purification
Cleaning exhaust air with the power of nature
Organic pollutants in the air can be neutralised effectively and with low energy input using UV ozone.
In UV ozone air purification, pure ozone is generated via controlled UV light in combination with atmospheric oxygen. The UV light and the ozone it generates convert the organic components into harmless compounds.
This environmentally friendly process, which is modelled on nature, does not produce any dangerous by-products such as nitrogen oxides.
Copied from nature:
The purifying power of the thunderstorm
Ozone, also called active oxygen, is a volatile, unstable gas that reacts strongly with organic components of the air. In the process, the ozone is completely consumed and decomposes back into oxygen.
The fresh scent after using ozone air purification is similar to that after a thunderstorm. Lightning also creates ozone in nature, which neutralises the pollutants in the air from traffic and industry. Afterwards, the air is perceived as clear and clean again.
In the oxytec systems, the ozone is generated exclusively by the wavelength of the light. This avoids the nitrogen oxides that are produced by high voltage during generation.
Also against odour and germs
The UV light produced during ozone air purification (Production Pollution Control, PPC) neutralises germs in the air and even neutralises odour-causing molecules.
In this way, the ozone air purification systems not only achieve pollutant levels well below the legal limits, they also avoid a large proportion of the undesirable odour emissions. If necessary, an almost complete avoidance of odours can be achieved via downstream stages.
Areas of application for UV ozone air purification
Cleaning gastronomy exhaust air
In professional kitchens, vast quantities of hot, greasy and steamy air are produced, which still contains many organic compounds and odours even behind the grease separators. With UV ozone treatment, these molecules are broken down into harmless, no longer greasy components. SO the exhaust air ducts remain free of grease and residents are not bothered by odours.
Cleaning of industrial exhaust air
The exhaust air from many industrial plants, such as food production, paint shops, pharmaceutical production or sewage treatment plants, contains a variety of organic compounds, some of which are toxic or at least smell bad. Today, thermal processes, i.e. incineration, are often chosen to eliminate these pollutants and odours.
UV-ozone air purification is superior to this method, as well as to other methods. It purifies more effectively, with a fraction of the energy input, less maintenance and a smaller footprint.
Neutralise germs on surfaces
UV ozone can also be used to disinfect rooms, e.g. in food production. Since free oxygen molecules in the air reach practically everywhere, UV ozone is also effective in places that other methods cannot reach – e.g. evaporators of cooling systems, cracks, machines.
The process can be automated and is much less time-consuming than washing down with chlorine solution, for example, and thus requires hardly any labour input.
Eliminate odours
Odours often also hang on surfaces and in upholstery or other textiles. Treatment with UV-ozoned air oxidises the odour-causing molecules and makes the annoying odours, even cigarette smells, disappear completely. UV ozone is thus ideal for ridding hotel rooms or car interiors of odours. The air in the room smells really fresh again afterwards, like after a cleansing thunderstorm.
Keep food fresh
Gastronomes know the problem: once refrigeration or storage rooms are contaminated, there are constant problems with spoiled food. If fruit and vegetables and even flowers are stored in germinated air, they last much longer and retain their appetising appearance.
Cold rooms in particular are difficult to disinfect because the germs sit in the convectors and are constantly redistributed via the circulating air. Our UV ozone solutions neutralise the germs before they leave the appliance.
Scientific background
In a validation by the Laboratory for Microbiology and Hygiene in Hoyerswerda (test report no. 11410, June 2015), the germ-reducing effect of ozone against various microorganisms was tested. In summary, an antimicrobial, bactericidal effect of ozone against the germs Aspergillus niger, MRSA Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli was proven.
Advantages of UV ozone disinfection
- Reaches even inaccessible places
- Not labour intensive and can be automated
- Avoidance of corrosion by chemicals
- Much more economical than other methods
- Less use of water
- Rapid amortisation
- No formation of resistance
Exhaust air purification systems with UV ozone
Clean Exhaust Air – air treatment based on UV and ozone
This compact exhaust air unit is designed for exhaust air purification in industry.
VOCs/total C, formaldehyde, H2S, odours and greases in industrial exhaust air are neutralised with it. Official requirements according to TA Luft (total C, formaldehyde, aromatics, mercaptans, odour limits) are thus fulfilled.
Clean Fryer Air – compact exhaust air purification system for greasy exhaust air
Clean Fryer Air (CFA) is a complete system for exhaust air purification in the food industry. It is particularly suitable for processes with greasy, organically contaminated and smelly exhaust air – the ideal solution for frying lines and other odour-intensive processes.
The system is highly effective and also extremely economical in terms of energy consumption.
All official requirements (total C, formal aldehyde, aromatics, odour limits) are met.
