Clean air finds space – even in small cooking areas

Effective exhaust air purification for confined kitchen areas with hood or duct integration

Even in confined spaces, such as those found in bistros, snack bars, or small restaurants, grease, odors, and pollutants can be safely removed from kitchen exhaust air. oxytec offers flexible solutions with UV ozone or plasma technology that can be integrated into hoods or ventilation ducts to save space – without costly retrofitting, without a chimney, without activated carbon.

What would you like to know?

Simply put your question to our AI. They will answer you individually:

Typical emission sources of small cooking areas

Source Pollutants Special features
Cooktop, grill plate, pan Grease mist, smoke, VOCs, odors Locally limited, thermally stressed sources
Deep fryer or oven Oil vapors, aerosols High odor intensity in a small area
Sink, cleaning, hygiene Cleaning chemicals, moisture Often not treated

Why Oxytec is the better solution for small kitchens

Space-saving integration directly into the hood or duct

Effective odor reduction with UV ozone or plasma

No exhaust stack required—discharge via facade or interior possible

Ideal for renovations, container kitchens, food trucks, and older buildings

Proven performance—approvable

Legal requirements

VDI 2052 / VDI 3894 / TA Luft

  • Odor and grease separation are also mandatory in small kitchens
  • Exhaust air must not cause odor nuisance at the outlet
  • UV and plasma systems are permitted if their effectiveness has been proven

Approval & fire protection

  • No flame, no thermal afterburning
  • Metal housing – fire-safe and easy to maintain
  • Approval possible through measurement or expert opinion

Clean air – even without a technical room

Small kitchens don’t have to compromise. With integrated oxytec solutions, you can create odor-free cooking zones—even in the smallest of spaces—that are legally compliant and low-maintenance.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

How does exhaust air purification work directly in the hood or in the duct?

With this solution, the cleaning technology is compactly integrated where space is available:

  • Directly in the kitchen hood (UV-C + ozone or plasma)
  • As an inline module in the ventilation duct (e.g., ozone injection + mixing section)
  • Without a separate technical center or ducting to the roof

The pollutants are oxidatively decomposed so that the air can be discharged with little odor and free of grease – even at low heights or in recirculation mode.

Which technology is better for my application—UV ozone or plasma?

UV ozone Plasma
Ideal for continuous use Very good for intermittent use
Compact systems with mixing section Reaction field directly in the air duct
Also available as a retrofit module Low maintenance, no media consumption
Actively generates oxygen radicals Efficiently oxidizes even complex VOCs

We recommend UV ozone if duct integration or hood installation is preferred, and plasma for high odor loads and low maintenance capacity.

How much space do the systems require?

  • Hood installation: from approx. 25–30 cm installation height
  • Duct units: from 50–60 cm length in the air duct, e.g., above the ceiling
  • No additional technical room or shaft required
  • Also suitable for food trucks, show kitchens, or container solutions

How loud are the systems during operation?

The devices are quiet:

  • No combustion noise
  • No moving parts in the cleaning unit
  • Only airflow noise from the existing fan

We offer optional soundproof hoods or duct sections for noise-sensitive environments.

How much maintenance is required?

No consumption of activated carbon or chemicals

UV systems: Lamp replacement depending on operating time (approx. once a year)

Plasma systems: Cleaning of electrodes as required

Optional with cleaning program, maintenance contract, or remote monitoring

How is effectiveness demonstrated?

The systems meet the requirements of VDI 2052 and VDI 3894. Proof of effectiveness can be provided by:

  • Odor measurement (DIN EN 13725 / olfactometry)
  • VOC measurement with PID sensors or FTIR
  • Documentation of air volume flows & oxidation performance

We are happy to assist you with expert reports and approval applications.

Can I retrofit the system into existing hoods or kitchens?

Yes. Oxytec offers:

  • Retrofit modules for UV ozone or plasma
  • Duct units for integration into existing air ducts
  • Compact units for standalone operation (e.g., for container kitchens)

Also possible in listed buildings or under strict building regulations.

What subsidies are available?

Depending on the state and usage, the following subsidy programs may apply:

  • BAFA subsidy (Module 4) for energy-efficient ventilation
  • City/state programs for inner-city restaurants or renovations
  • GEG-compliant renovation funding if heat recovery is integrated

We would be happy to advise you on feasibility and the application process.
