Replacing thermal post-combustion with UV/ozone technology

Efficient and particularly energy-saving exhaust air purification for food production

The industrial production of food and ready meals generates large quantities of fatty and odorous exhaust air every day. The thermal afterburning used for neutralization causes extremely high energy costs, high maintenance costs, and requires a considerable amount of space.

With the Clean Fryer Air, we offer a compact, low-maintenance, and highly efficient solution based on UV/ozone that has been specially developed for the requirements of the food industry—in particular for frying lines, ovens, and deep-frying lines.

Are you planning a new building, a renovation, or would you like to make your production more energy efficient? We can help you with the implementation—from the initial analysis to the ready-to-use installation.

The best place to start is with an energy concept. We can help you with that.

How UV ozone technology effectively neutralizes grease and odors

UV-C lamps irradiate the passing exhaust air with short-wave energy. This radiation breaks down long-chain organic compounds—especially fat droplets and odor-causing components—at the molecular level. At the same time, activated ozone (O₃) is generated from the oxygen contained in the air. This reacts highly effectively with the broken-down molecules: odors and fats are oxidized, i.e., converted into harmless, odorless components such as CO₂ and water vapor. The ozone disappears completely during the conversion.

The entire process runs continuously – without the use of filters or chemicals, leaving no residue and with a high level of operational safety. The result is clean, virtually odorless exhaust air, even in heavily polluted production processes such as frying, roasting, or baking.

The solution: Clean Fryer Air – compact, efficient, low maintenance

Our compact Clean Fryer Air system requires very little floor space as it is designed to be installed vertically. It is extremely lightweight and can therefore also be installed on roofs. With its UV/ozone technology, the Clean Fryer Air reliably cleans the exhaust air directly where it is generated: close to the production line or directly above it.

The compact unit has an integrated washing system that automatically removes deposits and significantly extends maintenance cycles. The purified exhaust air is virtually odorless, and VOC pollution is reduced to the level set by TA Luft (Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control).

The advantages:

  • Up to 80% less energy consumption for exhaust air purification
  • Up to 98% less CO₂ emissions
  • No sooting of exhaust air ducts
  • Low maintenance thanks to automatic self-cleaning system
  • Compact & flexible – on the roof or directly on the conveyor belt
  • Can be synchronized with production: automatic on/off switching saves energy
  • Future-proof and retrofittable – even during operation

Production heat can also be generated more efficiently and economically:

Until now, the usable heat from TNV has been a selling point. By dispensing with this energy-intensive technology, the required temperature is also reduced from approx. 800° to just 300°, which is perfectly adequate for heating the production facilities. The energy savings have a double effect: when heating up and when cooling down the excess heat. In modern factories, production is heated with thermal oil, which enables precise, uniform heating and thus contributes to high production quality. oxytec offers complete energy concepts for food production and can plan, build, install, and maintain the systems with its subsidiary condoheat.

UV/ozone exhaust air purification is ideal for:

  • Manufacturers of ready meals
  • Roasting and deep-frying lines
  • Producers of convenience food
  • Central and commercial kitchens
  • Manufacturers of snacks and baked goods
